The City of League City Parks and Recreation Department has won the 2024 Texas Recreation and Park Society Administrative – Management Excellence Award. This award recognizes innovations in administration, management, or supervisory actions that have responded to problems or have improved service to the public. League City won this award for its efforts in addressing the need for programs and activities that serve individuals with disabilities. The City will be recognized at the TRAPS State Conference early next year in Galveston, TX.
The mission of the League City Parks and Recreation Department is to provide a diverse menu of quality recreation programs that address citizen needs, encourage community health and wellness, and promote a lifelong recreational lifestyle.
One area the city felt it could expand its availability was in adaptive programming or programs for individuals with disabilities. The Parks and Recreation Department saw an opportunity to provide a variety of programming and special events to meet the growing needs of the community. In the past year, the City partnered with several local organizations, committed staff time, engaged the community, and committed financial resources to expand programming to the adaptive demographic. As a result, the City of League City now offers a variety of programs, events, resources, and a supportive network that serves hundreds of families and individuals with disabilities on a year-round basis.
